Uṣas

One of the most beautifully sung deities of the Ṛgveda — Uṣas is the daily miracle of dawn personified as a young, luminous maiden. Over twenty hymns celebrate her: she awakens all beings, reveals the day's paths, and marks the passage of time. Though she opens the way each morning for her consort Sūrya, she is celebrated in her own right as a devī whose recurrence is the very rhythm of hope.
