Sikhī arose in fifteenth-century Punjab through Guru Nānak's radical devotional monotheism — a synthesis at the confluence of Bhakti Vedānta and Sufi thought. Ten living Gurus shaped the tradition until Guru Gobind Singh vested guruship in the Ādi Granth (now Guru Granth Sāhib) and the Khālsā community. Central practice is nām simran (remembrance of the divine Name), kirtan, honest labour (kirat karnā), and selfless service (sevā).
