Śrīmad Bhagavad Gītā · Chapter 13 of 18
Kshetra Kshetrajna Vibhaga Yoga — The Yoga of the Distinction Between the Field and Its Knower
क्षेत्रक्षेत्रज्ञविभागयोगः
Arjuna asks Krishna to explain Nature, the individual self, the field, its knower, and knowledge itself. Krishna answers that the body is the field, and the self that knows it is the knower of the field, present in every body -- Krishna himself. He lists the field's material components (the elements, senses, mind) and then the qualities that make up true knowledge, such as humility, nonviolence, and unwavering devotion. He describes the supreme reality as present everywhere -- hands, feet, eyes, and heads on all sides -- undivided yet appearing divided among beings, the light behind all lights. The chapter closes by explaining that different seekers reach this understanding through meditation, philosophical reasoning, action, or simply faith in what they have heard, and that seeing the self as a non-doer, distinct from Nature's actions, is the key to liberation.
